Reiki Level 2 opens the door to many beautiful possibilities.
Once you learn distance Reiki, you are no longer limited to offering Reiki only through hands-on healing in the present moment.
You can also send Reiki to yourself, to future events, to past situations, and to parts of yourself that may still need healing, comfort, or support.
This Deep Dive is for Reiki students who would like to explore distance Reiki in a more creative and personal way.
You may want to send Reiki before an important appointment, a difficult conversation, an exam, a court date, a job interview, or another situation where you would like to feel calm, grounded, clear, and supported.
You may also feel called to send Reiki to your younger self, to a past memory, or to a part of you that still carries emotional weight.
The intention is not to control life or force a specific outcome. The intention is to invite Reiki, peace, balance, and the highest good into the situation.
If you are already attuned to Reiki Level 2, this can be a beautiful practice to explore. If you are not yet attuned to Reiki Level 2, this article can help you understand what becomes possible when you take that next step.

My name is Daniela Hills, and I am a Reiki Master/Teacher and the creator of GateLightElearning. Over the years, I have taught Reiki both in person and online, and one thing I love about Reiki Level 2 is how many creative and meaningful ways it gives us to work with distance healing.
Sending Reiki means allowing Reiki energy to flow with a clear intention, even when the person, situation, or moment is not physically in front of you.
In hands-on Reiki, we usually place the hands on or near the body and allow Reiki to flow in the present moment.
With distance Reiki, the focus expands.
Reiki can be sent to a person, a situation, a future event, a past memory, or even to a part of yourself that needs healing and support.
This is one of the reasons Reiki Level 2 can feel so meaningful.
It helps you understand that Reiki is not only about physical touch. It is also about intention, connection, trust, and allowing the energy to work for the highest good.
When you send Reiki, you are not forcing healing to happen. You are not trying to control another person or control the outcome of a situation. You are simply creating a sacred moment, connecting with Reiki, and offering the energy with respect.
This can be especially helpful when you want to support yourself before something important, or when you feel that a past experience still needs compassion, peace, or release.
In Reiki Level 2, you learn how Reiki can be sent beyond the physical moment. This is often called distance Reiki.
Distance Reiki can be sent to someone who is not with you in person. It can also be sent to a situation, a future event, or a past experience that still feels heavy in your heart.
This may sound unusual at first, especially if you are used to thinking of Reiki only as hands-on healing.
But Reiki Level 2 expands the way we work with energy. It teaches us that Reiki is not limited in the same way the physical body is limited.
When you send Reiki across time and space, your intention becomes very important.
You may send Reiki to:
• a future appointment
• a difficult conversation
• a job interview
• a court date
• an exam
• a medical appointment
• a past memory
• your inner child
• a time when you felt alone or unsupported
The purpose is not to change the past or force the future.
The purpose is to bring healing, peace, clarity, and support to the part of you that is connected with that experience.
This is why distance Reiki can be such a gentle and meaningful practice. It allows you to support yourself not only in the present moment, but also in places within your life where more light and healing may be needed.
In traditional Reiki training, distance Reiki is usually taught in Reiki Level 2.
This is where you learn the Reiki symbols and how to use them to send Reiki beyond hands-on healing.
The symbols can help you connect, focus your intention, and hold your awareness on the healing in a clear way.
Maybe you are wondering if distance healing is possible without Reiki symbols.
Personally, I believe that healing energy can be sent in many ways through love, prayer, intention, and focus.
At the same time, I feel that the Reiki Level 2 symbols bring something very special into the practice.
For me, the symbols help to focus the energy more clearly. They also help the mind stay connected to the healing instead of drifting away into thoughts.
In that way, the symbols can become like a bridge between your intention and the Reiki energy.
So while I do believe distance healing can happen in different ways, I would say that distance Reiki, in the traditional Reiki sense, is best learned through Reiki Level 2.
This gives you a clear foundation, proper attunement, the Reiki symbols, and a deeper understanding of how to send Reiki respectfully and with focus.
Before you begin, take a few moments to become still.
You may want to sit comfortably, take a few deep breaths, light a candle, or place your hands on your heart.
This helps you become present and connect with Reiki in a calm and focused way.
Connect with Reiki in the way you have learned.
If you are attuned to Reiki Level 2, you can use the Reiki symbols as part of your practice. The symbols can help you focus your intention and connect with the person, situation, past memory, or future event you would like to send Reiki to.
Your intention is very important.
You can say something simple, such as:
“May this Reiki flow to ______ for the highest good.”
Or:
“May Reiki support me during ______ with calm, clarity, protection, and peace.”
You do not need complicated words. A clear, respectful intention is enough.
Bring your awareness to what you are sending Reiki to.
This could be:
• a person who has asked for Reiki
• a future event
• a past situation
• your younger self
• your inner child
• a part of your body
• a situation where you need support
You can imagine the person or situation in your mind, write it on a piece of paper, or simply hold the intention in your heart.
Now allow Reiki to flow.
You do not need to push, force, or control the energy. Reiki works in its own gentle way.
You may feel warmth, tingling, peace, emotion, or nothing at all. All of this is okay.
The experience can be different each time. Simply stay present and allow the Reiki to be offered for the highest good.
When you feel complete, thank Reiki in your own way.
You may place your hands together, take a deep breath, or simply say thank you.
Then gently bring your awareness back to the present moment.
It can also be helpful to drink some water, rest for a moment, or write down anything you noticed during the practice.

When I have a specific event coming up, I like to check in with it more than once.
For example, I imagine myself already being in that future situation.
Then I simply notice how I feel.
Do I feel calm?
Do I feel tense?
Do I feel clear?
Do I still feel worried or unsettled?
If I notice that I still feel stressed, tense, or not fully calm, I send Reiki again.
Sometimes I do this once.
Sometimes I repeat it every day until the event happens.
And sometimes I send Reiki shortly before the event, especially if it is something that feels emotionally important.
Personally, I do not send Reiki directly to the other people involved unless they have asked for it or agreed to receive it.
Instead, I send Reiki to myself and to the situation, with the intention that everything unfolds for the highest good.
You can also include gratitude in this practice.
Gratitude has a very strong energy, especially when it comes from the heart.
You may want to thank Reiki, thank your guides, thank your higher self, or simply thank the energy of support that is already present.
This keeps the practice gentle, respectful, and heart-centered.
Another beautiful way to work with distance Reiki is to create a Reiki depot for yourself.
You could also think of this as a Reiki energy reserve, a healing bank, a Reiki container, or even something similar to a Reiki Box for your own self-care.
The idea is simple. You send Reiki into an energetic space or container with the intention that this Reiki is available for you when you need extra support.
For example, you may want to create a Reiki depot for:
• emotional support
• stressful days
• healing after difficult conversations
• moments when you feel tired or overwhelmed
• times when you need grounding
or
• situations where you want to feel more held and supported
You can imagine this Reiki depot in any way that feels natural to you.
Maybe it looks like a box of light.
Maybe it feels like a soft glowing sphere. Maybe it is a healing bank in the spiritual world.
Maybe you simply hold the intention in your heart without seeing anything clearly.
You do not need perfect visualization.
Intention is more important than seeing a clear picture.
To create your Reiki depot, connect with Reiki in the way you have learned. Use the Reiki symbols if you are attuned to Reiki Level 2, and then send Reiki into this energetic container with the intention that it supports you for your highest good.
You could say:
“May this Reiki depot be filled with Reiki energy for my highest good. May I receive this support whenever I truly need it.”
Then allow Reiki to flow for a while.
When you feel complete, close the practice with gratitude.
For me, this feels a little like creating a cosmic healing bank. It reminds me that I am allowed to receive support too.
Many of us are used to helping others, holding space for others, and sending healing to others. But sometimes we forget to offer the same love and care to ourselves.
A Reiki depot can be a gentle reminder that your own healing matters too.

You can also send Reiki to the past. This does not mean that you change what happened. The past itself has already happened.
But Reiki may help bring peace, healing, compassion, and release to the part of you that is still connected with that experience.
Sometimes a past situation still carries emotional weight. Maybe there was a painful conversation, a time when you felt alone, a moment when you did not feel safe, or an experience that still comes up in your heart from time to time.
With distance Reiki, you can gently send healing energy to that moment.
You could send Reiki to:
• a difficult memory
• a painful conversation
• a time when you felt unsupported
• a moment where you felt afraid
• a situation that still brings up emotion
• your younger self
• your inner child
• a time when you wish you had felt stronger, safer, or more loved
Your intention could be simple:
“I send Reiki healing to the part of me that experienced ______. May this energy support peace, healing, compassion, and release, for my highest good.”
Then connect with Reiki in the way you have learned, use the Reiki symbols if you are attuned to Reiki Level 2, and allow Reiki to flow gently to that past situation.
You do not need to push yourself into painful memories.
This practice should feel gentle, respectful, and safe. If something feels too overwhelming, stop and come back to the present moment.
Place your hands on your heart, breathe, and ground yourself. Reiki is not about forcing healing. It is about allowing healing to unfold in a way that honors your heart and your highest good.
When I learned Reiki Level 2 many years ago, we also practiced sending Reiki to the inner child. I still feel this can be one of the most meaningful ways to work with distance Reiki.
Your inner child is the younger part of you that still remembers how certain experiences felt. This may include happy memories, but also moments when you felt alone, misunderstood, afraid, unseen, or unsupported.
Even if you had a loving childhood, there may still be moments that need healing. Maybe there was bullying at school, a time when you felt left out, a painful experience during puberty, or a moment when you did not know how to express what you truly felt.
With Reiki, you can gently send healing energy to that younger part of yourself.
You are not going back to judge the past.
You are not blaming anyone.
You are not forcing yourself to relive something painful.
You are simply offering Reiki, love, compassion, and support to the part of you that may still need it.
You could use an intention like:
“May Reiki flow to my inner child for healing, peace, comfort, and release. May the younger part of me feel loved, safe, supported, and seen.”
You may want to imagine your younger self surrounded by soft Reiki light.
You may want to place your hands on your heart while you send Reiki.
You may want to simply hold the intention without seeing anything clearly.
All of this is okay.
Inner child healing with Reiki can be very gentle, but it can also bring emotions to the surface.
If this happens, be kind to yourself.
Take your time. Breathe.
Ground yourself.
Drink water.
Rest if you need to.
And if a memory or emotion feels too heavy to work with alone, it is okay to receive support from a trusted practitioner, counselor, therapist, or healing professional.
Reiki can support deep healing, but you do not have to walk through everything by yourself.

Some Reiki practitioners also like to send Reiki to past-life memories or symbolic images that come up during meditation, dreams, healing work, or intuitive practice.
Whether you see these impressions as real past-life memories, symbolic messages from the subconscious, or intuitive images, Reiki can still be offered with the intention of healing, peace, and release.
You do not need to know every detail. You do not need to fully understand why a memory, image, or feeling comes up.
You can simply send Reiki with a gentle intention, such as:
“May Reiki flow to the origin of this feeling, memory, or pattern, in the way that supports healing, peace, and release for my highest good.”
This can be especially helpful when something feels old, repetitive, or difficult to explain.
As always, work gently. Stay grounded. Do not force yourself to explore anything that feels overwhelming.
Reiki is not about pushing into the past. It is about allowing healing to come in a safe, loving, and respectful way.
Reiki can be a beautiful support for relaxation, emotional balance, spiritual connection, and self-healing. But Reiki does not replace medical care, therapy, counseling, or professional support.
If you are dealing with physical symptoms, mental health concerns, trauma, strong emotional pain, or a serious life situation, please also reach out to a qualified health professional, therapist, counselor, or trusted support person.
Reiki can work beautifully alongside other forms of care, but it should not be used as a reason to avoid getting the help you need.
When you send Reiki to yourself, to the past, to the future, or to a difficult situation, please do it gently, safely, and with respect for your own wellbeing.
There is one situation where I personally like to be extra careful: surgery or medical procedures where anesthesia is involved.
When I learned Reiki, I was taught not to send Reiki directly to a person while they are in surgery. The way it was explained to me was that Reiki may not be ideal to send directly to the patient while anesthesia is being used.
I cannot say if this is medically true. I am not a doctor, and this is not medical advice. But because surgery is a serious medical situation, I prefer to be cautious and respectful.
My personal suggestion is to send Reiki to the person before and after the surgery, with their permission. During the surgery itself, I prefer to send Reiki to the situation rather than directly to the patient.
For example, the intention could be:
“May this surgery be surrounded by peace, harmony, clarity, and the highest good. May the medical team be focused, supported, and guided in doing their work with skill and care.”
This way, you are not trying to interfere with the medical process. You are simply offering Reiki to the situation with love, respect, and trust. After the surgery, when the person is recovering and has agreed to receive Reiki, you can send Reiki for comfort, rest, peace, and healing support.
Reiki Level 2 is such a beautiful step because it expands your Reiki practice.
In Reiki Level 1, the focus is often on self-healing, hands-on healing, and building your connection with Reiki. This foundation is very important.
In Reiki Level 2, you go deeper.
You learn how to work with the Reiki symbols, how to send Reiki at a distance, and how to use Reiki with intention in a more focused way.
As you have seen in this Deep Dive, distance Reiki can be used in many meaningful ways - for future events, past situations, inner child healing, Reiki depots, and personal support.
But this is only one part of what Reiki Level 2 can open.
🌟 You may also learn how to work with Reiki and crystals,
🌟 use Reiki symbols for spiritual house cleansing,
🌟 create a Reiki shower for energetic cleansing,
🌟 and bring Reiki into many areas of your daily life.
This is why I feel Reiki Level 2 can be so meaningful. It is not only about learning symbols. It is about learning how to work with Reiki in a more conscious, creative, and focused way.
The important thing is to work with respect, a clear intention, an open heart, and trust in Reiki. Reiki is simple, but it can also be very deep.
The more you practice, the more you begin to understand what is possible.

You may have seen videos on social media where someone says they are sending Reiki to everyone who watches the video.
This is an interesting topic.
Personally, I stay open to what may be possible with energy work, because Reiki and healing energy are often understood more deeply through practice and experience than through theory alone.
At the same time, I also believe that Reiki should be practiced with respect, clear intention, and awareness.
When I send Reiki, I prefer to know who I am sending it to, or I send Reiki to a situation with the intention of the highest good. This helps me stay focused, respectful, and clear in my practice.
Maybe Reiki videos feel supportive to you. Maybe they do not. Maybe you are simply curious.
As with many spiritual practices, your own experience, intuition, and discernment are important.
If you enjoy distance Reiki, you may also like working with a Reiki Box.
A Reiki Box is a beautiful way to send Reiki to several people, wishes, goals, or situations in an organized way. You can place names, written intentions, or situations inside the box and then send Reiki to everything in the box at once.
This can be especially helpful if you want to support different areas of your life, or if you are sending Reiki regularly to people who have asked for healing.
You can read more about this in my related Deep Dive: A Reiki Box for Distance Reiki

Sending Reiki to yourself across time and space can be a gentle and powerful practice.
You can send Reiki to your future self before an important event.
You can send Reiki to a past memory that still needs peace.
You can send Reiki to your inner child.
You can create a Reiki depot for your own self-care.
You can send Reiki to situations where you need calm, clarity, grounding, or support.
The most important thing is to practice with respect, clear intention, and an open heart. Do not force the energy. Do not try to control the outcome. Do not pressure yourself to feel something special every time.
Simply connect with Reiki, set your intention, and allow the energy to flow for the highest good. Reiki is simple, but it can also be very deep. The more you practice, the more you discover.
If you feel drawn to distance Reiki, Reiki symbols, and creative ways to send Reiki across time and space, Reiki Level 2 may be your next step.
In Reiki Level 1, you learn the foundation of Reiki and hands-on healing.
In Reiki Level 2, you learn distance Reiki, Reiki symbols, and new ways to work with Reiki energy for yourself, others, and situations.
You are warmly invited to explore our Reiki courses at GateLightElearning.
Love and Light, from my heart to yours, Daniela
If you have already been attuned to Reiki, I hope Reiki has become a supportive part of your life.
And if you have not practiced for a while, that is okay too. Life can become busy, and sometimes our spiritual practices move into the background for a time.
Reiki does not leave you. You can simply begin again by giving Reiki to yourself and allowing the energy to flow. You do not need to receive your attunements again, but a Reiki Level 1 Refresher or Reiki Level 2
Refresher can be a helpful way to review the teachings, reconnect with your practice, and feel supported again.
I also chose to learn from more than one Reiki Teacher because I wanted to see how different teachers share Reiki and what I could learn from each of them. My second Reiki Master and Teacher was Norbert Kuhl, and I am very grateful for his teachings.
